If you have never been seen by a chiropractor, you may have some questions or reservations about what you will experience. If you have been seen by a chiropractor in the past, we may be a little different than what you expect. We want to make sure you get the best care and understand every step of the process.

Chiropractic is one of the safest and most effective healing arts. Unlike medication, there are no side effects of quality chiropractic care, and unlike surgery, it is very safe. Most people notice a change for the better during the first two to six weeks of care. Many notice improvement after one visit. Your response to treatment depends on many factors including: age, length of time you have had a condition, rest and your diet.

At Longwood Family Chiropractic our treatment emphasis is on gentle, manual adjustments to the spine to restore motion and alignment. We give you spinal exercises and teach you how to care for your spine. Your treatment may include, heat packs, cold packs, different types of massage, soft tissue work, joint mobilization, traction and home exercise. The ultimate goal is for you to return to your normal activities and support a healthy lifestyle.

Upon entering the office, we have some paperwork to fill out. Completing these forms in the comfort of your own home will save 15-20 minutes. If you prefer to fill out the forms in our office, please arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment.

This visit will last about 1 hour. Once the paperwork is completed, you will meet with the doctor to discuss your health-related concerns and goals, as well as potential treatment options. Your treatment program will be based on the following:

  • Your current problem
  • Your prior health and recent injury
  • Your initial exam, including physical, neurology, and orthopedic testing
  • Your posture and functional movement patterns
  • And any extremity conditions that might be contributing to your complaint

*If the doctor believes that x-rays or an MRI are appropriate for your case they will order these tests for you.

After the initial consultation, a chiropractic assessment will thoroughly evaluate your spine and nervous system. After the doctors review and study your results, we will determine the best course of care for you. If this first visit is an emergency, you may receive necessary treatment after your exam. We want to be sure to receive the treatment that is best for you, whether it’s our treatment, a combination of different types of care or a referral for alternative care. We will only accept your case if we believe we can help!

On your second visit, we will review our findings with you. We encourage you to bring spouse or partner with you during this visit. Part of our commitment to you is to provide you with information. We will clearly describe the number of sessions necessary and the duration of the plan. We will answer all of your questions about costs and procedures. We will outline options for care and allow you to choose the type of care that most serves your health goals.

We look forward to helping you and your family achieve optimal health and vitality. We are excited about the possibility of helping you to reach a new level of wellness!

Automobile accidents, even minor accidents, can have a large impact on your health. Individuals should always be examined and properly treated after an auto accident in order to reduce pain, accelerated degeneration and maintain proper range of motion.

At Longwood Family Chiropractic, we take a conservative transitional approach to treating accident-related injuries with short-term and long-term goals in mind. Initially, we focus on reducing pain by decreasing inflammation and muscle spasm.

Throughout treatment we monitor progress and listen carefully to how you are progressing in order to make the proper adjustments to your treatment plan. Once pain is reduced, care will shift to restoring strength and maximizing proper range of motion through in office care as well as home-care techniques.
